Wait, there is an actual Airport at Burning Man? Yes. 88NV to be specific. The Black Rock Municipal Airport manages and ton of General Aviation planes and pilots and a few other biguns.
Are the Airport Operations (unicom, etc) part of BRTA? Not anymore, although many of the people who participate in airport operations are also Agents.
Is the Airport Gate part of BRTA? No. That is a full on, passport checking, Burning Man ticket gate. Don’t even think about it.
Are the air charter operations part of BRTA? The Sparkle Pony Express? No, thank god. Who wants that headache.
Can I camp by the airport if I'm not part of BRTA? Maybe - probably! We don’t actively recruit for BRTA. Volunteers for the aiport can camp in the airport gehto. Pilots can continue to camp under their wing. Fly-by-Nite is the only other theme camp at the Airport (we love them so much. We love their coffee so much). Check the 88NV page for updates.
What can I do to help out? We’d love to meet you! Read the "Can I be a part of BRTA" page and fill out the New Agent Questionnaire. The best really is to show up at the Starport and show us what you got!
Can you fly me to Burning Man from LA? I have always dreamed of flying in to Burning Man and only weigh 100 pounds. Sign up for some MOOP shifts and we’ll see what we can do.
How can I get someone to take me up in their plane to see BRC from the air? Pilots are mysterious creatures. Showing up at the airport and volunteering is no guarantee but it can't hurt. There is a sign up and the something something tent on the fence line. Be prepared to wait forever. Best is to meet a pilot in person while bringing your most Principles Burning Man Self.
Is it true that there is a Mile High Club? We cannot confirm or deny that couples, throuples, etc., find pilots that are facilitating such an erotic occurrence as a meeting of the “Mile High Club”.
